It’s hard to believe that the first free social story I wrote about masks, back in April of 2020, now has over 82,000 downloads. Of all the COVID-19 related social stories the mask story was the one that was translated into 12 languages around the world. It was my first realization that as a global society, we were all in this together.
This new story, at the end of May 2021, comes as restrictions and mask mandates are slowly being lifted around the United States. Because some places still require masks, and some do not, a story was needed to help children understand what is happening. This story talks about how masks need to be worn in some places, and in other places they do not need to be worn. A visual support is also included as a way to prepare children for what to expect wherever they go. This visual support can be kept in the car and pulled out and used in the community.
Hopefully, sooner than later, I will be writing a story about how masks are done! I never would have guessed that it would take until mid 2021 to write this story! Stay safe everyone, and once again, I hope this story helps children who may be confused during this time of transition.
