Visual Supports Challenge

The Visual Supports Challenge is a 7-day video series that teaches participants about 7 different types of visual supports that have been proven to be effective for autistic children and children with other developmental disabilities. Each day, you will have access to a new video that introduces a different visual support and provides tips for implementing it in the classroom or at home.

7 Visual Supports In The Challenge

The 7 visual supports covered in the challenge are:

Visual Schedules: a visual tool that shows children the order of activities and helps them understand what is expected of them.
All Done Bucket: a visual strategy that creates a predictable routine for when it’s time to be finished with a toy, object, or activity with pieces.
Core Board & AAC: augmentative and alternative communication options to help autistic children with their expressive communication.
Star Chart: a form of duration mapping, which is a visual way to count down time.
Wait Mat: a visual tool that helps children learn to set down an object that they are holding so they can finish a task or activity.
Calming Sequence: a short visual sequence that walks children through actions that support and encourage self-regulation.
Adapted Books: using visuals to make books accessible to and more engaging for autistic children.

The challenge is designed to be accessible and easy to follow, with each video lasting between 7 and 17 minutes.
