On The Fly Stories
I wanted to let you in on a little secret! You will not always have time in the school setting to make “pretty” little stories for your students. That’s okay…it’s real life for those of us in education! I have had so much success writing what we call “on the fly” stories for my students. They may not be pretty, but they work! Let me give you a quick tutorial on how to do this!
-
Grab a piece of paper or a dry erase board…
-
Write a few sentences about what is happening and what the desired outcome would be…
-
Read the story with your student.
I’m in the classroom every day, so I’m a realist. This strategy may not work every single time, but I’ve seen it work A LOT and I use it A LOT! I have had some students who actually stop crying and come right over to me to see what I am going to write/draw when I pull out some paper. It’s because I’ve done it enough times that they know what it is and that it will help the situation! Try it out…you have nothing to lose!
